Texas Men’s Swimming Inks Two Recruits In Fall Signing Period
AUSTIN, TX – University of Texas men’s swim head coach Eddie Reese announced the signings of two U.S. Swimming All-Americans, Ian Crocker (Portland, Maine / Cheverus) and Brendan Hansen (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford), to National Letters of Intent for the upcoming 2000-2001 academic year.
Crocker, a 1999 U.S. Swimming All-American in the 100-meter freestyle, most recently competed as a member of Team USA at the Pan Pacific Championships after finishing fourth in the 100-meter freestyle (50.38) and ninth in both the 200-meter freestyle (1:51.99) and the 100-meter butterfly (54.61) at the 1999 Phillips 66 Spring Nationals. The 1997 Junior National champion in the 200-meter freestyle, Crocker became the first 15-year-old American to go under 1:50 in the 200-meter freestyle when he swam 1:49.48 in that event to finish 20th at the 1998 Summer Nationals.
Hansen, a 1999 U.S. Swimming All-American in both the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke, claimed his first national title at the 1999 Phillips 66 Summer Nationals, winning the 200-meter breatstroke in a career-best 2:16.07. He also finished third in the 100-meter breaststroke at that meet, touching in 1:02.37 to earn the title of Under-18 champion and set another career-best.
