Texas A&M Men’s Swimming And Diving Takes Down Florida Atlantic

BOCA RATON – The Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team won seven of 14 events Thursday night to race by Florida Atlantic, 121-105.
The Aggies opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, as Alexandros Theocharidis, Mauro Castillo, Jacob Wallace and Justin Morey touched first in 1:33.92, just under a second faster than FAU’s Hunter Swartsel, John Nolte, Austin Olivares and John Brennock (1:34.88).
Hayden Duplechain led a 1-2-3 sweep for Texas A&M in the 1000 free, as he stopped the clock in 9:41.51. Teammate Mitch Glander finished about a second and a half later in 9:43.14, followed by Miha Bernat in 9:45.71.
Florida Atlantic picked up its first win of the meet in the 200 free, as Matthieu Burtez posted a 1:40.72 to top Texas A&M’s Luke Shaw (1:41.34). Burtez added another win later on in the meet in thrilling fashion, out-touching Shaw in the 100 free by .01, 45.83 to 45.84.
Texas A&M earned wins in the next four events, as Jacob Gonzales (50 free, 20.67), Gonzalo Carazo (200 IM, 1:52.34), Tyler Henschel (1-meter diving, 357.97) and Jacob Wallace (100 fly, 51.50) won their respective events. Duncan Mulleady added a win in the 100 back (51.27) later on in the meet.
Florida Atlantic won the remaining four events, as Texas A&M raced exhibition. Rich Andrews picked up nine points in the 500 free after edging teammate Bennet Bean, 4:50.88 to 4:50.97. Devon Neilson (3-meter diving, 300.15) and Nick Landi (100 breast, 1:00.47) won the final two individual events before Matthieu Burtez, John Nolte, John Brennock and Hunter Swartsel topped the 200 free relay in 1:25.21.
