Texas Lands 2024 Verbal From Junior Pan Pac Finalist Brayden Taivassalo Of Canada
NEW COMMIT: The University of Texas has received another big verbal commitment for 2024, this time from Brayden Taivassalo of Newmarket, Ontario.
He will join Cooper Lucas as a member of the Longhorns’ Class of 2028.
Regarding his commitment, she said:
“From student life to the best swim program in the nation, The University of Texas has everything I was looking for to further my academics, swimming career, and find a home away from home. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to swim under the sport’s greatest legend, Eddie Reese and be a part of the Longhorn family.”
Taivassalo placed fifth in the 200m breast and sixth in the 100m breast at the Junior Pan Pac Championships this past summer. Back in April, he raced to seventh in the 50m breast, 17th in the 100m/200m breast and 18th in the 200m IM at Canadian Trials.
In LCM, his best times include:
- 100 breast – 1:03.01
- 200 breast – 2:15.52
- 200 IM – 2:07.47
- 400 IM – 4:45.43
In SCY, those times convert to:
- 100 breast – 54.96
- 200 breast – 1:58.48
- 200 IM – 1:51.95
- 400 IM – 4:11.37
When in Florida, he trains with Gator Swim Club and attended FW Buchholz High School last year. Now back in Canada, he swims for Markham Aquatic Club and goes to Bill Crothers Secondary School.
He placed second in the 100 breast and fifth in the 200 IM at the Florida 4A State Championships last season.
