Texas High School Record Holder Dakota Luther Gives Verbal Commit to Georgia
The University of Georgia has added a verbal commitment from Dakota Luther for the Class of 2022. The Texas high school record holder will join the Bulldogs’ butterfly group. She also brings along a great mid-distance freestyle as well.
Luther attends Austin Westlake and trains with Austin Swim Club. At the 2017 Texas 6A State Championships, Luther broke Dana Vollmer‘s 100 butterfly state record with a 52.27. She also won the 200 freestyle. Luther was also a member of the runner up 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
She told Swimming World,
“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim & study at the University of Georgia!! I would like to thank my loving family for being by my side every step of the way. I can’t wait to begin my journey at UGA. Go DAWGS!!!”
Her best times are:
- 100 Fly 52.27
- 200 Fly 1:55.07
- 200 Free 1:45.68
- 500 Free 4:44.27
Just last month Luther was a part of a USA Swimming contingent to compete at the Mel Zajac Jr International Meet in Vancouver, Canada, marking her first international experience with Team USA. She’ll bring that new experience with her to Athens where she should be an immediate scoring threat. At the 2017 SEC Championships Luther would have been an A finalist in the butterfly events and the 200 freestyle. She’s even in NCAA scoring range in the 200 butterfly and sits just outside it in the 100 fly.
She joins Madison Homovich and Olivia Carter with early verbal commitments to the Bulldogs. Luther joins high school and club teammate Matthew Willenbring in making an early verbal commitment. Willenbring is staying local and will swim for the Texas Longhorns.
