Texas, Georgia Remain Atop National Polls
By Phillip Whitten
NOVEMBER 30. THE University of Texas' men's swim team maintained its number one position in the CSCAA/Speedo NCAA Swimming Coaches Poll, with a light lead over Stanford. Meanwhile, double defending NCAA champion, Georgia, held on to the top spot in the women's poll.
Texas scored 193 points in the men's poll, just three points more than Stanford. Texas A&M vaulted to the number three spot–it's highest ranking ever–with 187 points.
While Georgia led the women with 194 points, surprising UCLA jumped to the #2 spot with 189 points. Arizona, whose chances to win an NCAA title were jeopardized when Diana Munz, a 2000 Olympic gold and silver medalist, decided to turn pro, was third with 184.
