Texas A&M Secures 2020 Verbal from Quickly-Improving JoJo Daspit of Magnolia Aquatic Club
NEW COMMIT: Texas A&M University has gained a new in-state verbal commitment for their growing class of 2024 from Montgomery native and current high school junior Jolie “JoJo” Daspit.
Primarily a sprint freestyler, Daspit does her club swimming with Magnolia Aquatic Club and owns a pair of Winter Junior standards. She most recently competed at College Station Speedo Sectionals where her highest finish was a 21st-place showing in the 100m free. She notched five best times at Gulf Southern Seniors in December before going on to leadoff two of Magnolia’s relays at Juniors West. This past summer, she finished 16th in the 100m free at Rochester Futures after recording 100% best times at Austin Speedo Sectionals.
Also competing for Montgomery High School, Daspit is a four-time Texas UIL State Championship finalist. She won the 100 free and took fourth in the 50 free as a junior at the 5A championships after placing eighth and 11th, respectively, in those events at the 6A meet during her sophomore season.
She told Swimming World:
“I feel so fortunate and honored to verbally commit to Texas A&M!! This truly is a special place. The coaches and staff have created such a positive environment and the girls on the team are so inviting and supportive of each other – the energy is contagious!!”
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.48
- 100 free – 50.41
- 200 free – 1:51.62
After only taking up swimming at 15 years old, Daspit has made significant improvements over the past two seasons. She has dropped over a second in the 50 free, seven seconds in the 100 free and three seconds in the 200 free. When she arrives in College Station for the 2020-21 season, she’ll add valuable depth to the Aggies’ sprint group who won their fourth-straight SEC team title this past season.
