Texas A&M Gets 2021 In-State Verbal from Distance Standout Trey Dickey
NEW COMMIT: Texas A&M University has received a new verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from three-time U.S. Open qualifier Trey Dickey of Murphy, Texas.
This is the Aggies’ third in-state early verbal as Dickey will join fellow in-state standouts Munzy Kabbara and Tyler Hulet in College Station as a member of the class of 2025.
Primarily a distance freestyler, Dickey does his club swimming with City of Richardson Swim Team and recently achieved eight best times at the COR Classic Invitational last month. This past summer, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won the 1500m free at Austin Sectionals and registered five lifetime bests at NCSAs last short course season. A current junior at Plano East Senior High School, Dickey placed 12th in the 200 free and 14th in the 500 free as a sophomore after racing to 12th in the 500 free during his freshman season at the Texas 6A State Championships.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“I’m incredibly thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim for Texas A&M in 2021! I’m honored to join the A&M family and I would like to thank my amazing family and coaches that have helped me get here. Gig ‘em!”
His best times include:
- 500 free – 4:28.31
- 1000 free – 9:14.28
- 1650 free – 15:16.99
- 200 fly – 1:49.18
- 400 IM – 4:00.02
Dickey has consistently made improvements over the past two years, dropping six seconds in the 500 free, 13 seconds in the 1000 free, and 30 seconds in the mile. Even with 1.5 years to go before suiting up for the Aggies, he would’ve placed in the top-18 of the mile at the 2019 SEC Championships where Texas A&M finished fourth in the team standings.
