Texas A&M Continues Speed at Art Adamson, led by Connor Foote, Baylor Nelson

Texas A&M continued to build its lead at the annual Art Adamson Invitational on Thursday in both the men’s and women’s midseason swimming meets.

The women scored 845.5 points. TCU is second with 564, followed by Washington State (511.5), Utah (373) and Incarnate Word (91).

The Aggie men scored 780.5 to lead Utah (591), TCU (569), Incarnate Word (249.5) and Air Force (239).

The Aggies started the Day 2 of the meet with a win in the women’s 200 IM. Kaitlyn Owens, Bobbi Kennett, Olivia Theall and Chloe Stepanek won the race in 1:36.76, finishing nearly three seconds ahead of TCU (1:39.48).

Theall won the 100 butterfly in 51.51, ahead of Washington State’s Emily Lundgren (52.60).

Stepanek won the 200 free (1:45.01) in a 1-2-3 finish with Jordan Buechler (1:45.95) and Hayden Miller (1:46.81).

Texas A&M’s Giulia Goerigk won the 400 IM in 4:10.11, leading a 1-2-3 sweep in an event that has become an Aggie staple. Hannah O’Leary was second (4:14.22) and Kaylee Coffey was third (4:16.70).

Owens won the 100 backstroke (51.79) head of Washington State’s Anna Rauchholz (53.92) and TCU’s Rylee Moore (54.17).

Lundgren won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.20, just ahead of Kennett 91:00.32) and Ella McQuinn (1:00.69).

Theall, Buechler, Miller and Stepanek won the 800 free relay in 7:08.96.

The Texas A&M men took control of the meet on Day 2 as well.

Tommy Shomper, Travis Gulledge, Connor Foote and Ben Scholl won the 200 medley relay in 1:23.74, a full second ahead of TCU (1:24.82).

Foote won the 100 fly in 45.18, ahead of TCU’s Nigel Forbes (46.52).

Baylor Nelson won the 400 IM in a strong 3:39.35 to lead a 1-2 finish with Munzy Kabbara (3:44.47).

Shomper won the 100 back in 46.31 ahead of teammate Tyler Hulet (46.49) and Forbes (47.42).

A&M’s Jacob Wimberly, Nelson, Scholl and Kabbara won the 800 free relay (6:24.64).

Utah’s Nick Chirafisi won the 200 free in a 1-2 Utes finish. He touched the wall in 1:35.16 just ahead of teammate Jakub Walter (1:35.39). Air Force’s James Winterfield was third in 1:36.70.

TCU’s Jadon Wuilliez won the 100 breast in 51.84 ahead of Gulledge (51.86) and Sanchez (52.07).
