Texas 5A 100 Back Champion Abby Koczo Sends Verbal to Alabama
NEW COMMIT: Frisco, Texas native Abby Koczo has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Alabama. A talented backstroker and IMer, she will make her way to Tuscaloosa in the fall of 2019.
Koczo does her club swimming with Lakeside Aquatic Club and owns the Junior National standard in both backstrokes and IMs. She raced those events at Juniors this past summer and was a four-time finalist at Austin Speedo Sectionals. She notched three best times at College Station Speedo Sectionals in March and also raced at Juniors West last winter.
She also represents Frisco Reedy High School and won the 100 back at the Texas 5A State Championships during her sophomore season in addition to finishing fourth in the 200 IM. Koczo won both of those events at the 5A Region 3 meet and was also named 100 back champion at State during her rookie campaign.
She told Swimming World:
“So excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at The University of Alabama!! Super thankful for all of the help along the way!! ROLL TIDE!”
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 55.44
- 200 back – 1:59.25
- 200 IM – 2:02.61
- 400 IM – 4:20.22
Koczo will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Crimson Tide as a member of the class of 2023. Although her best times sit just outside scoring range at the SEC Championships, she will add valuable depth to their lineup with a year of club swimming still to go.
