Teuscher Cruises to 400 Win at L.I. Open
July 14. CRISTINA Teuscher had no trouble in winning the 400 meter freestyle on Day Two of the Long Island Open, one of two Cadillac Challenge Series swim meets being contested this weekend. Teuscher clocked 4:12.46, almost four seconds ahead of Kim Black at 4:16.19.
In other women's action, Samantha Arsenault took the 100 free in 56.77, with Black second again, 57.13. Molly Freedman annexed the 200 fly, edging Maddy Crippen, 2:15.08 to 2:15.65. Lea Maurer cruised to an easy win in the 200 back, touching in 2:14.65
Fifteen year-old Michael Phelps swam 2:00.32 to take the men's 200 fly, while Dan Shevchik took the 200 back in 2:02.88, comfortable ahead of Jason Webb at 2:05.18. Ian Crocker took gold in the 100 free in 51.60.
The most exciting men's race was the 400 free, where ricardo Monasterio held off Fran Crippen and hometown hero Brendan Neligan to win in 3:57.05. Crippen followed in 3:57.57 with Nelligan finishing in 3:58.05.
