CONCORD, Calif., Aug. 7. SWIMMERS representing the Terrapins Swim Club in Concord, Calif., set three national age group (NAG) records in meets recently.
Competing at the Texas Senior Circuit Championships in mid-July, 13 year-old Sean Mahoney – America's answer to 13 year-old Huingarian Dani Gyurta – slashed three seconds from the 13-14 boys' 200 meter breaststroke mark with a brilliant 2:20.81 – a Senior National qualifying time.
Sean is still training in the Terrapins' age group program, and swims no more than 35,000-38,000 yds per week. He is well aware of the young Hungarian. The trans-Atlantic competition between the two 13 year-olds could well results in a world record a few years down the line.
AT the Far Western Championships last weekend, the Terrapins' 11-12 boys relay team broke both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle records.
The team of Donald Walter, Sean Reilly, Matt Dentone, and Matt Bishop clocked 2:04.53 for the medley and 1:51.79 for the free relay.
