Tennessee State Runner-Up Maggie Petty Chooses Cal

NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berekely has received a new verbal commitment for the 2024-25 season and beyond from Maggie Petty of Nashville, Tenn.

Her older brother, Evan Petty, is currently a junior on the Cal men’s team.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am THRILLED to announce my verbal commitment to The University of California, Berkeley! I am so grateful for the support I’ve received from my parents and coaches throughout my swimming career! Can’t wait to continue my athletic and academic journey as a BEAR!💙💛🐻 GO BEARS!!!!”

Petty does her club swimming with Nashville Aquatic Club and finished eighth in the 50m free at Junior Nationals this past summer. Last winter, she placed 20th in the 50 free at Juniors East, also taking 24th in the 100 free.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.83
  • 100 free – 50.26
  • 100 free relay split – 49.5
  • 200 free – 1:52.32
  • 100 back – 56.17

Currently a senior at Harpeth Hall School, Petty earned silver in both the 50 free and 100 free at the 2023 TISCA State Championships. She took third and fifth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She’ll join Mia West, Jordan Ash and Finley Anderson as a member of the Golden Bears’ class of 2028.
