Tennessee Rounds Out Coaching Staff with Caleb Lawrence
Tennessee on Thursday hired Caleb Lawrence as an assistant coach, the latest hire in a busy summer.
Lawrence spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Richmond, where he helped the Spiders to back-to-back top-three finishes at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
“We are really excited to bring Caleb into the Tennessee Volunteer family,” Tennessee director of swimming and diving Matt Kredich said in a university statement. “Caleb will bring a lot to our program – great energy, a compelling vision for our team and some great coaching experience at outstanding college and club teams. He’s been mentored by some of the best and most innovative coaches in swimming today, most recently by Matt Barany at the University of Richmond. He is known as a relentless recruiter and a coach who puts a very high value on relationships with the athletes he coaches.”
Prior to Richmond, Lawrence spent three seasons as a volunteer assistant coach at Notre Dame. He also was an assistant coach for Irish Aquatics.
Lawrence graduated from NC State in 2018. He served as a student assistant in 2017-18. From there, he spent two seasons with TAC Titans, mentoring athletes like Olympians Ashley Twichell and Claire Curzan.
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the Volunteer family,” Lawrence said. “I have admired Matt Kredich and his staff for some time now and would like to extend a huge thanks to him and Senior Associate Athletic Director Tyler Johnson for this incredible opportunity. I can’t wait to begin competing for championships on Rocky Top!”
Kredich also promoted Josh Huger to associate head coach this summer and added Sarah Collins as a full-time assistant.
