Temarie Tomley Joins Georgia Tech Staff as Assistant Coach

Temarie Tomley has joined the coaching staff at Georgia Tech as an assistant coach, the Yellow Jackets announced on Wednesday.

Tomley spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at George Washington. She was a member of NCAA-qualifying relays for three years at the University of Alabama.

“We’re thrilled to be able to add Temarie to our coaching staff,” head coach Courtney Shealy Hart said in a university statement. “She brings a tremendous amount of success from her time in the pool at Alabama and as a top-30 qualifier for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, and from her time as a coach at George Washington where she helped lead them to back-to-back conference championships. I’m excited for the impact she’ll have on our entire team.”

Tomley helped GW sweep the Atlantic 10 Championships each of the last two years. Specializing in the sprint group, Tomley helped two athletes qualify for NCAAs. The team set 21 program records and 10 conference records last year.

She also had a hand in recruiting for the women’s team, business operations, volunteer activities and brand partnerships.

“I am so excited and so grateful to Courtney for the opportunity to coach alongside a prestigious staff and a high-achieving group of student-athletes,” Tomley said. “I can’t wait to start helping build the Yellow Jackets to new heights.”

The native of Cincinnati, Ohio, started her coaching career at the Country Club of Mobile, where she was the director of aquatics and competitive swimming for a club with more than 100 athletes. She worked for two years in the athletics department at the University of New Mexico.

In the pool, Tomley helped the Crimson Tide get relays to NCAAs three times from 2015-18. She swam at SEC Championships all four year and took part in U.S. Olympic Trials in 2016. She remains in Alabama’s top 10 all-time in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free. She graduated with a degree in exercise and sports science in 2019 and received her master’s in business administration in 2019. (Full disclosure: Tomley is a former intern of Swimming World.)
