Teen Swimmer in ICU After Medical Emergency During Columbus Sectional
A 15-year-old swimmer had a medical emergency that stopped the USA Swimming Speedo Sectional in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday.
The incident occurred at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Ohio State’s campus. The swimmer’s name is being withheld because they are a minor dealing with medical issues. That must come from the family.
Ohio State University confirmed a 15-year-old experienced a medical emergency in the pool and was attended to by lifeguards and on-state medical staff before being transported to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center by the Columbus Fire Department, according to the report.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, the swimmer remains in the ICU at Wexner Medical Center, according to that swimmer’s club team.
The club team is OLY Swimming based in Rochester Hills, Michigan, where Oakland University is.
A statement from OLY Swimming, a Rochester Hills, Michigan-based swim club, says its swimmer is “responding to treatment and is making progress,” the Distpatch reported. “We wanted to thank every single one of you who offered our swimmer and our OLY Swim family your thoughts and prayers over the past couple of days,” the statement reads. “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of spirit from the swim community, and we truly cannot thank you enough.”
