Team USA World Juniors Member Matthew Fallon Verbally Commits to Penn For Fall of 2021
NEW COMMIT: World Juniors team member Matthew Fallon verbally committed to University of Pennsylvania out of the Ivy League on Thursday, he announced on social media.
Fallon will be a freshman at Penn in the fall of 2021, as he enters his senior year of high school in Warren, New Jersey. Fallon swims year round with the Somerset Valley YMCA and made the B-Final in the 200 breaststroke at last summer’s US Nationals. He swam a 2:13.36 in the heats, which solidified his spot on the 2019 World Juniors team for the United States.
Swimming in Budapest at the championships, Fallon finished 19th in the 200 breaststroke at 2:16.65.
Matthew Fallon finished second in the 200 breast at the 2019 Junior Nationals East in December with a 1:54.18, just behind World Juniors gold medalist Josh Matheny. At that same meet in Atlanta, Fallon finished eighth in the 100 breast with a 54.54, which was slightly slower than his 54.00 from the 2019 YMCA Nationals in April.
Fallon has a stronger 200 breast, but should be a good relay addition for Penn as he was quicker than the Quakers’ top breaststroker in 2020 (Boris Yang, 54.63). Fallon’s best times put him in A-Final scoring range at the Ivy League Championships as his 200 was quicker than the winning time of 1:55.70 from Princeton’s Derek Cox.
Fallon also boasts a solid 400 IM best time of 3:44, which would have put him third at the Ivy League Championships in 2020.
Matthew Fallon’s Best Times:
- 100 breast: 54.00 / 1:04.59
- 200 breast: 1:54.18 / 2:13.36
- 200 IM: 1:47.72 / 2:05.98
- 400 IM: 3:44.08 / 4:24.62
