Team USA Clear Winner in Medal Count
VICTORIA, British Columbia, Aug. 20. AFTER an incredibly fast four days of competition at the 2006 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships that featured six world records set at the Saanich Commonwealth Place pool in Victoria, British Columbia, Team USA emerged as the clear victor of the meet.
The United States tallied 48 total medals with 26 gold, 19 silver and three bronze medals coming home with the contingent. Meanwhile, Japan picked up the second-most medals with 24 as it acquired three golds, eight silvers and 13 bronzes. Australia rounded out the top three with 17 total medals (2G, 3S, 12B).
Canada came in fourth in front of a home crowd with eight medals (2G, 3S, 3B), while Korea took fifth with four medals (2G, 1S, 1B). South Africa finished sixth with three medals (1G, 2S), while China (1S, 1B) and Brazil (2B) each garnered two medals.
