Team USA Adds Men’s Water Polo Gold to Women’s at Pan American Games
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, July 27. TEAM USA walked away with the men's water polo gold medal after going undefeated at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Red, White and Blue dominated Brazil, 9-2, in the gold medal match after advancing through semis with a 15-4 thrashing of Cuba. The United States also emerged from pool play with an unblemished 3-0 record and a plus-39 goal differential. Brazil made it to the final match after a 10-6 conquest of Canada in semis and a 2-1-0 ledger in pool play.
Canada wound up beating Cuba for the bronze medal, 9-5.
Individually, Cuba's Ernesto Antonio Cisnero led all scorers in the tournament with 18 goals, while the United States' Tony Azevedo tickled the twine 15 times to tie with Brazil's Felipe Franco. Although, Azevedo tallied his goals in four matches compared to the other two player's five matches.
