NEW COMMIT: Audrey Marcus of Santa Monica, Calif. has announced her decision to go out of state with commitment to swim at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts beginning in the fall of 2021.

She is a senior at Santa Monica High School, and her swim club is Team Santa Monica under the direction of Coach Mohammad Khadembashi.

She told Swimming World:

“I am thrilled to announce my commitment to Babson College! As a student and a swimmer, the opportunity to continue from club swimming to be engage with the best of both worlds is a dream come true. I feel tremendously grateful to join Coach Kristy Jones warm and well-coached team. I want to thank my all of my coaches, family, and friends for their support over the years. I look forward to next four years to continue to improve my times and contribute to the success of the team! Go Beavers!”

Marcus swam the breaststroke leg Santa Monica’s 4×50 medley relay which won the bronze medal at the 2019 CIF-Southern Section DIII Championships. Her 50 breast split of 30.93 was a personal best time. She also won the 2019 league championship title in  the 100 breast and qualified for the DIII Southern Section meet in the same event.

Her 4×50 medley relay team set the school record to qualify and swam in the 2019 California CIF State meet.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 25.04
  • 100 free – 54.73 (split)
  • 50 breast – 30.93 (split)
  • 100 breast – 1:09.36

In the short CIF-SS season in 2021, Santa Monica High School was moved up from DIII to DII, but was still able to quality in the 4×50 medley relay4x100 free relay. Marcus swam a personal best split in the 4×100 free relay of 54.73 that helped the squad break the school record in 3:36.57 and finish sixth.

The sixth-place relay finish helped put the women at eighth overall in CIF-SS DII. In the Bay League finals, leading up to CIF meet, Marcus set the school record of 1:09.50 in the 100 breast.

Marcus will join the 2020 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletics Conference Championships (NEWMAC) seventh-place finishers in the fall of 2021. She will likely contribute to the team’s score at conference champs as their aim to move up in placing in the conference championship.

Her top times would have placed her in the B-final of the 100 breast and 50 free, with her relay leg 100 free also good for a B- final. She would just be shy of the B-final in the 200 breast as well.

Thank you to David Newberg of Team Santa Monica for contributing to this press release.
