TCU Names Andy Waeger Assistant Swimming Coach
FORT WORTH, Texas, August 21. THE TCU swimming and diving program announced the hire of Andy Waeger as assistant swimming coach Tuesday. Waeger comes to the Horned Frogs after serving as the head coach at Division II Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, Pa.
“We are excited to have Andy join our staff,” head coach Richard Sybesma said. “He brings experience, knowledge and enthusiasm to TCU and will be a great addition to our program.”
In his seven years in charge at LHU, Waeger led the program to new heights. The Lady Eagles recorded its highest ever team finish at the Division II Swimming and Diving Championships when they took 16th place in 2010. He also worked as Meet Manager for the championships as LHU was the host institution.
“I am very excited to come to TCU from Lock Haven,” Waeger said. “It is a great opportunity to join a great staff, and to increase my knowledge base and experience level. I look forward to working with a very talented group of men and women.”
Waeger coached student-athletes to six All-America honors and six honorable mention All-America records at Lock Haven. School records were broken 76 times and the Lady Eagles produced 15 all-conference performances. He also served on the NCAA Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Committee before coming to Fort Worth.
Prior to Lock Haven, Waeger was at Slippery Rock University where he worked for three seasons. After serving as a graduate assistant for a season, he was elevated to head coach for the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. In two years at The Rock, the team broke eight school records and produced a conference champion.
Waeger started out his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater of Fairmont State College in West Virginia, working with distance, IM and breaststroke training groups.
During his college career with the Fighting Falcons, Waeger was a four-year letterwinner and as a senior took the conference title in the 200 breast and 400 medley relay along with serving as a team captain.
