Taylor Murphy announces verbal commitment to New Mexico.

NEW COMMIT: Missouri City, Texas native Taylor Murphy has selected the University of New Mexico to continue her academic and swimming career beginning in the fall of 2021.

She will join Caitlin Beery as a member of the Lobos’ class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m extremely blessed and excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of New Mexico in the fall of 2021!  I would like to thank my family, coaches, and friends for all of their support throughout the years. I can’t wait to be a lobo!!️”

A talented sprint freestyler and butterflyer, Murphy does her club swimming with First Colony Swim Team and is a Futures qualifier. She most recently competed at College Station Sectionals and finaled in two events at TYR Junior Nationals in March 2019. Last summer, she recorded four best times at the Gulf Summer Championships before going on to place fourth in the 50m fly at Southern Zone Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.78
  • 100 free – 52.30
  • 50 fly – 25.65
  • 100 fly – 58.08

Also competing for Ridge Point High School, Murphy raced the 50 free at the Texas 6A State Championships in 2018 and 2020. She placed second in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 fly as a junior at the 6A Region 05 meet while grabbing silver in those events at the Region 20 Championships during her freshman season.

Murphy will add valuable depth both individually and on relays when she suits up for the Lobos at the start of the 2021-22 season. Under head coach Keegan Ingelido, New Mexico finished eighth overall in the team standings at the 2020 Mountain West Championships.
