NEW COMMIT: The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill has picked up a verbal commitment for the fall of 2023 from U.S. Open qualifier Craig Bohlman of Glen Allen, Virginia.

He will join Logan Richards, Ben Delmar and Tucker Valliere in Chapel Hill as a member of the Class of 2027.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill! UNC checks all the boxes with great academics, fast swimming, awesome coaches and a family-like team culture. Thank you to my parents and my coaches who have always supported and believed in me – I would not have this opportunity without you! GoHeels!”

Bohlman does his club swimming with Nova of Virginia Aquatics and most recently earned four best times at Junior Nationals where he finished 23rd in the 1500m free and 24th in the 400m free. He won the 800m free at Virginia LCM Seniors where he also placed third in the 200m free and fourth in the 400m free, 400m IM and 1500m free.

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:41.39
  • 500 free – 4:31.77
  • 1000 free – 9:24.40
  • 1650 free – 15:40. 02
  • 400 IM – 4:02.23

Currently a senior at J.R. Tucker High School, Bohlman was the runner-up in the 500 free at the Virginia Class 5 State Championships, also taking eighth in the 200 free. He won both of those events at the VHSL Region 5C Championships, too.

Bohlman is a great pickup for the Tar Heels and will ad valuable depth to their distance group. His best time in the mile would’ve already placed 24th at last year’s ACC Championships.
