Tampa Takes Home Titles at Tampa Relay Carnival

TAMPA – The University of Tampa swimming and diving teams each pulled out close victories this afternoon at the UT Aquatics Center, as both the men’s and women’s team topped the team standings at the annual Tampa Relay Carnival. The Spartans won 11 of the 20 relay events contested to edge Limestone in the final team rankings.

In the first athletic event for the University of Tampa in 2015, the Spartan men’s and women’s swimming teams both registered comeback wins at the annual Tampa Relay Carnival at the UT Aquatics Center.
The No. 15 UT women accumulated 116 points to hold off Limestone (110), DePauw (88), SUNY-New Paltz (66) and Lake Erie (16). Tampa’s No. 10 men had 124 points to top Limestone (116), SUNY-New Paltz (74) and Lake Erie (30).
UT’s women won a total of five races, beginning with the 400 Fly Relay from Charissa Venice, Allison Chandler, Jesse North and Emily Grams (4:07.86). The Spartans also took the 500 Crescendo Relay with Marisa Barton, Erin Plachy, Briana Murphy and Brittany Bayes (4:46.76), 8×50 Free Relay with Plachy, Barton, Page Fox and Grams (3:25.78), 3×166 SNARF Relay with Bayes, Murphy and Shannon Armstrong (5:35.91) and 400 Free Relay with Plachy, Barton, Murphy and Catherine Bayes (3:41.55).
The Spartan men won six races, including the 800 Free Relay from Runar Borgen, Tommy Reminger, Derek Krell and Jeremy Parker (7:07.28), 400 Fly Relay from Zane Hranac, Kyle Freudiger, Zach Sprague and Borgen (3:31.17), 400 Medley Relay with Borgen, Clayton Clemens, Hranac and Parker (3:30.14), 3×166 SNARF Relay from Reminger Jonathan Hofrichter and Alberto Orejuela (5:06.70), 400 IM Relay with Borgen, Hranac, Danny Duhig and Robert Cicchini (3:42.09) and 400 Free Relay from Parker, Krell, Freudiger and Kevin Cooney (3:11.50).
UT hosts a pair of meet next week, beginning on Friday, January 9 versus Boston College at 3 p.m. UT will then swim in its final home meet of the season on Saturday, January 10 against Sunshine State Conference opponent Rollins College at 11 a.m.
