Sydney Willson, Janet Evan’s Daughter, Gives 2025 Verbal to Princeton

NEW COMMIT: Princeton University has secured a new verbal commitment* for Fall 2025 from Sydney Willson of Laguna Beach, Calif. She’s the daughter of four-time Olympic Gold medalist Janet Evans.

Willson will join Savannah Skow as a member of the Tigers’ Class of 2029.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am very humbled and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to the application process at Princeton University to further my athletic and academic careers! I’d like to thank God, my friends, my teammates, and my family for continuously supporting me and my goals. I’d also like to thank my Coach, Mark Schubert, for helping me get to this point. Finally, I am very grateful to Coach Abby, Coach Juan, and all of the amazing people at Princeton for this incredible opportunity!! GO TIGERS!”

A distance freestyler, Willson trains under Mark Schubert, her mother’s former coach. She most recently placed 16th in the 800m free at Junior Nationals this past summer and she won the mile at Carlsbad Sectionals in March. She also took 16th in the mile at Juniors West last winter.

Her best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:49.56
  • 500 free – 4:50.27
  • 1650 free – 16:37.04

Willson is currently a junior at JSerra Catholic High School. She finished 11th in the 500 free at the 2023 CIF State Championships as a sophomore after taking sixth during her freshman season.

Her best times are already fast enough to score in the B-final of the 200/500 free at the 2023 Ivy League Championships, as well as a top-8 finish in the mile.

*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER:* A “verbal commitment” does not guarantee admission. An Ivy League coach cannot guarantee admission but can only commit support in the admissions process.
