Sydney Pickrem, Courtney Harnish, Maxime Rooney Lead SEC Weekly Honors
The SEC announced its weekly honors on Tuesday.
Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Maxime Rooney, Florida
Florida’s Maxime Rooney won two individual events and was a part of a winning relay in No. 8 Flori- da’s win at LSU. He posted the fourth fastest time in the conference and 15th nationally in the 100 free (44.57), and recorded the top time in the SEC and 11th nationally in the 200 fly (1:47.89). Rooney also swam the third leg in the first-place 400 medley relay (3:15.29/47.21).
Men’s Diver of the Week: Juan Celaya-Hernandez, LSU
LSU’s Juan Celaya-Hernandez won both springboard events against No. 4 Florida. He took first in the 1-meter with a score of 429.75, and his winning score of 478.13 in the 3-meter set the LSU Natatorium pool record.
Men’s Co-Freshmen of the Week: Trey Freeman, Florida and Anton Down-Jenkins, South Carolina
Florida’s Trey Freeman posted a first-place finish the 1000 free (9:02.58) in No. 8 Florida’s win at LSU, the fourth fastest time in the nation.
South Carolina’s Anton Down-Jenkins swept the springboard events in No. 24 South Carolina’s season opener against No. 4 North Carolina State. In his collegiate debut, he scored 333.75 in the 1-meter and 406.88 in the 3-meter.
Women’s Co-Swimmers of the Week: Courtney Harnish, Georgia and Sydney Pickrem, Texas A&M
Georgia’s Courtney Harnish won two events in No. 7 Georgia’s win over No. 23 Arkansas. She posted the top times in the SEC and fifth-best times nationally in the 500 free (4:48.24) and the 1000 free (9:52.98).
Texas A&M Sydney Pickrem won four individual events and was a part of a winning relay as No. 5 Texas A&M won its season opener at No. 17 Ohio State. She posted B-cuts in the 200 IM (1:58.64) and 400 IM (4:12.07), good for second place nationally in both events. Pickrem also touched the wall first in the 100 back (54.15) and the 200 back (1:57.95), and was the leadoff in the 400 medley relay that won with a time of 3:38.74.
Women’s Diver of the Week: Brooke Schultz, Arkansas
Schultz earned first-place finishes in both springboard events in No. 23 Arkansas’ season opener against No. 7 Georgia. She posted a final score of 342.90 in the 1-meter and a score of 359.10 in the 3-meter.
Women’s Freshman of the Week: Vanessa Pearl, Florida
Florida’s Vanessa Pearl earned the top spot in three individual events and was also a part of a winning relay in No. 19 Florida’s win at LSU. Her first-place time in the 400 IM of 4:13.32 is currently the fourth best time in the NCAA. Pearl also won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.66) and the 200-yard breast- stroke (2:14.47), and swam the second leg of the first-place 400 medley relay team (3:40.59/1:01.97).
