Swimming World Presents “Shi’s the One,” A Feature on Diver Shi Tingmao
Shi’s the One!
China’s Shi Tingmao has dominated women’s diving for the past three years, having won six gold medals and one silver medal at the last two World Championships and the Olympics. In addition to her medals, Shi has been crowned both Swimming World’s and FINA’s Diver of the Year for the last three years.
Due to her dominance in the springboard events, many have begun comparing Shi to past Chinese diving greats like Wu Minxia, Gao Min, Fu Mingxia, and Guo Jingjing. While flattered, Shi admitted to Swimming World that she is too young to be compared to such great athletes.
Shi was not always a diver, though. The 26-year-old Olympian began in the sport of gymnastic, until a diving coach noticed her. The transition was easy for then 9-year-old Shi, who found gymnastics dull and diving fun!
To learn more about Shi and her many accolades, check out the February 2018 issue of Swimming World Magazine, available now!
