Swimming World Names 2009 Water Polo Players of the Year
PHOENIX, Arizona, November 23. YESTERDAY, Swimming World Magazine announced its Divers of the Year. Today, we name the Water Polo Players of the Year as featured in our December Issue.
The 2009 Swimming World Water Polo Players of the Year are Betsey Armstrong of the U.S. and Andrija Prlainovic of Serbia.
Known as The Redeemer for how many times Armstrong saves the U.S. women's team in goal, she has quickly become one of the most feared goalies in the sport. During the 2009 World Championships, she posted a 56 percent save percentage with an impressive 67 saves throughout the tournament. She helped the U.S. to the gold medal in Rome with 11 saves in the gold medal match.
Prlainovic dominated at the 2009 World Championships, leading Serbia with 12 goals, en route to leading his squad to a gold medal in Rome. He also tallied four assists, eight steals and two blocks, while playing an astounding 210 minutes during the tournament.
