Swimming World Cactus Classic: Noriko Inada Eclipses FINA Masters World Record

TEMPE/SCOTTSDALE, Arizona, May 24. ON Sunday evening, BEST's Noriko Inada not only beat her meet record in the women's 100 back, she also bettered the 30-34 FINA Masters world record during the Swimming World Cactus Classic.

Inada, 30, cleared a FINA Masters world record in the women's 100 back en route to winning the 15 & over event during long course meter competition. Inada posted a 1:02.27 to lower her 30-34 division record of 1:02.83 set in August 2008. The time also crushed her meet record of 1:04.72 set last year. Sun Devil's Jamie Martinez placed second in 1:06.33 with Arizona Marlin Danielle Lee taking third in 1:06.92.

Sun Devil's Jess Perazzo captured the women's 15 & over 50 free in 26.64, while Mount Hood's Laura Miller finished second in 27.06. Lake Oswego's Karen Turner wound up third in 27.07.

Scottsdale's Lindsey Laporte cruised in the women's 15 & over 200 free finale with a winning time of 2:04.70. Miller earned a second silver medal with a 2:07.29, while Lee took third again in 2:08.78.

Sun Devil's Jordyn Green touched out UWSF's Erica Stock, 2:37.05 to 2:37.12, for the women's 15 & over 200 breast triumph. Lake Oswego's Mackenzie Luick rounded out the top three in 2:44.05.

Scottsdale's Kacey Milligan raced to victory in the women's 15 & over 200 fly with a 2:19.97, while Sun Devil's Shoshanna Rutemiller earned second-place honors with a 2:23.37. Lee snatched her third bronze medal of the night with a 2:26.06 for third.

Sun Devil's Martinez, Sara McDaniel, Rutemiller and Katie Haron smashed the meet record in the women's 15 & over 400 medley relay with a time of 4:27.73. That effort wiped out the 4:32.20 set by Tucson Ford last year.

Sun Devil's Nick Brunelli dominated the men's 15 & over 50 free with a time of 22.75. Steve Neuwert finished in a second-place tie with Metro's Carl Weigley with matching 23.94s.

Sun Devil went 1-2 in the men's 15 & over 200 free. Xavier Mohammed garnered the victory with a time of 1:53.99. Teammate Adrian Kirkpatrick finished second in 1:55.99. Mount Hood's Brett Nagle claimed third in 1:57.08.

Silver Fin Tyler Messerschmidt took home the men's 15 & over 100 back title with a 58.24. Sun Devil's Max Laney touched second in 59.32, while BEST's Louis Wojciechowski placed third in 1:01.63.

Sun Devil's Nate Telep picked up the men's 15 & over 200 breast victory in 2:26.02 with Silver Fin Brian Ferro taking second in 2:28.76. Mohammed pocketed third-place honors with a 2:29.62.

Mount Hood's Dennis Baker, 47, won the men's 15 & over 200 fly in 2:07.15. The time missed his FINA Masters world record of 2:06.94 set in 2006 in the 45-49 age division. Tyler Pennington finished second in 2:07.97 with Scottsdale's Tudor Florea taking third in 2:08.15.

Sun Devil's Laney, Andrew Marciniak, Brunelli and Brian Anderson closed the night with a men's 15 & over 400 medley relay winning time of 4:02.21.
