Night two of Olympic swimming action did not disappoint.
Michael Phelps secured his 19th Olympic gold medal in the 400 freestyle relay as he and Caeleb Dressel, Ryan Held, and Nathan Adrian held off the French and Australian teams.
Sarah Sjostrom started the night in world record fashion. She was followed on the 100 butterfly podium by Canada’s Penny Oleksiak and the United States’ Dana Vollmer.
Great Britain’s Adam Peaty lowered his own world record to take gold in the men’s 100 breaststroke.
Katie Ledecky was the third swimmer of the night to best her own world mark on her way to gold in the 400 freestyle. The 19 year old has now earned two medals in two days and is expected to continue a historic Games.
Americans Ryan Murphy and David Plummer took the top two spots for tomorrow night’s 100 backstroke finals while their teammate Kathleen Baker led the way for the women.
Lilly King of the USA and Russia’s Yulia Efimova set themselves up to go head to head for gold in tomorrow’s 100 breaststroke final.
