Swedish Short Course Championships: Three National Records Fall on First Night
GOTHENBURG, Sweden, November 26. THE first evening of swimming at the Swedish Short Course Championships produced three Swedish records at the meet held in Gothenburg.
The Vasby SS club team of Malin Svahnstrom, Petra Granlund, Josefin Lillhage and Ida Sandin won the women's 200 free relay in 1:38.93 to set the Swedish record in the event. On top of the relay victory, Granlund snatched the women's 200 fly title in 2:06.76. She also clinched the women's 200 free in 1:57.51.
Therese Alshammar clipped her national record in the women's 100 IM with a time of 58.07. That swim beat her previous standard of 58.09 set last weekend.
The SK Neptun team of Petter Stymne, Stefan Nystrand, Christoffer Vikstrom and Simon Sjodin won the men's 400 free relay in 3:09.53, which broke the national record.
In other action, Erik Andersson claimed the men's 100 fly in 51.90, while national-record holder Lars Frolander took second in 52.76. Mattias Carlsson touched first in the men's 400 free with a 3:47.52. Joline Hostman pocketed the women's 200 breast title in 2:19.94. Mans Hjelm garnered the men's 100 IM crown in 54.82, while Lovisa Ericsson touched out Emma Svensson, 59.22 to 59.55, in the women's 100 back. Anton Lagerqvist claimed the men's 200 breast in 2:10.88.
