Sun Devils Grab Verbal From Washington State Champion Tolu Young

NEW COMMIT: Sprint freestyle specialist Tolu Young has announced his verbal commitment to Arizona State University. A Fiji native, Young has lived in Tacoma, Washington, since 2021.

He will join Bryce Rohr as a member of the Sun Devils’ Class of 2028.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I’m blessed for the opportunity to continue my academics and swimming at Arizona State University.  I felt a strong connection with the ASU coaches and swimmers during my visit.  Grateful for the time and support of all my family, coaches and teammates during this journey.  Forks Up!!!”

Young trains year-round with University Place Aquatics Club and earned gold in the 50 free and silver in the 100 free at Federal Way Sectionals back in March.

He represented his home country of Fiji at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, achieving best times in the 50m free (23.62) and 100m free (52.20).

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 19.61
  • 100 free – 44.14

A rising senior at Curtis High School, Young won the 50 free and took second in the 100 free at the 2023 Washington 4A State Championships, doing the same in 2022 as a sophomore.

The Sun Devils are coming off an historic season where they won their first Pac-12 title in program history and were runners-up at the 2023 NCAA Championships.
