SYDNEY, Australia, September 28. Triple Olympic gold medalist Stephanie Rice lit up the swimming Twittersphere this morning during a prank as part of the Kyle and Jackie O radio show on KISS FM in Australia when it was tweeted on her account that she was staging a comeback.
Rice, a guest on the show, took part in a regular show prank called “Text or Tweet.” During the prank, the hosts offer their guest the choice of having a tweet sent out on their phone on their behalf, or a random text to a contact on their phone.
Rice elected to let the hosts send out a tweet.
That’s where the brush fire started with the hosts tweeting out:
“After much discussion between family and friends today, I’m announcing my official return to the pool.”
As soon as she finished her radio spot, Rice jumped on her phone to delete the tweet and offer up an apology.
“I’m so sorry to disappoint everyone but the previous tweet wasn’t posted by me and has no truth to it. @kiis1065 took my phone for a game. I feel horrible that that has given so many of my incredible fans false hope, but I am not making a come back. Thankyou for always supporting me and my career. You guys are the best!!! Sorry once again & know that I am really upset about this.”
The hosts later told News.com.au that they were planning on texting Rice’s ex-boyfriend Eamon Sullivan: “Hey Babe I’ve been thinking, wanna give us another go?”
