NEW COMMIT: Stanford University has received their first public verbal commitment for their Class of 2026 from Olympic Trials qualifier Gigi Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so honored and excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Stanford University! Huge thank you’s to coach caleb for helping me chase my dreams and to my friends and family for their endless support. I cannot wait to join the farm!”

An extremely versatile swimmer, Johnson does her club swimming with SwimAtlanta. She competed in Wave I of the U.S. Olympic Trials most recently, finishing third in the 100m fly and 10th in the 200m IM.  She also had a strong showing at the Mizuno Atlanta Classic in May where she registered five lifetime bests.

Johnson had five first-place finishes at the 18&U Winter Championships – Norcross in December after competing at the Toyota U.S. Open. In December 2019, she won the B-final of the 100 free and placed eighth in the 200 IM at Juniors East.

She was also the silver medalist in the 200m breast at Junior Nationals in August 2019.

A rising senior at Westminster Prep, Johnson is a six-time Georgia 1-3A State Championship gold medalist. She won the 100 fly and 200 IM as a junior while taking first in the 100 breast and 200 IM during both her freshman and sophomore seasons.

In 2021, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American split a 23.94 on the butterfly leg of her team’s winning 4×50 medley relay that shattered the Georgia state record by just over three seconds.

Johnson will make an immediate impact when she arrives on The Farm at the start of the 2022-23 season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 IM and the B-final of the 100 fly, 100 breast, 100 back, 200 breast, 200 free, and 400 IM at the 2021 PAC-12 Championships.
