SANTA CLARITA – The Stanford Cardinal got a rising sprinter from southern California for next year’s freshman class, as Cole Cogswell has announced that he will head to Palo Alto next fall.

Under the guidance of Coley Stickels at Canyons Aquatic Club, Cogswell has made vast improvements in the past year, particularly in the 50 freestyle. His lifetime best in long course meters is 23.13, which got him fifth at last summer’s junior nationals. That represented a drop of five tenths from a year earlier. In short course yards, he’s primed to break 20 seconds at the California state championships next spring. He swam a 20.20 as a relay leadoff for Hart High School at the Southern Section Championships last May.

He’s also very impressive in the 100 free, with a short course yards best of 43.97 that was the eighth-fastest time in the nation in the 2013-2014 high school season. The potential is there as well in long course, with a 51.14 as his lifetime best from junior nationals.

Cogswell’s future teammates at Stanford will include breaststroker Matt Anderson and multi-event talent Jack Walsh.
