Stanford Leads Sears Cup Standings
Stanford, four-time winners of the Division I Sears Directors’ Cup, continues to hold its lead as the fall season comes to a close in the 1998-99 race. However, Florida, in second, is closing the gap. Stanford scored in six of the eight sports, earning the runner-up positions in men’s cross country, soccer and water polo; placing third in women’s cross country; ninth in women’s volleyball; and 33rd in women’s soccer. The Cardinal end the fall campaign with 310 points. The Sears Directors’ Cup is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and sponsored by Sears, Roebuck and Co. Florida earned points from its national title in women’s soccer, third place finish in women’s volleyball, sixth place showing in football; and 22nd place in women’s cross country. Rounding out the top five are Penn State; Arkansas, and Wisconsin.
