Stanford Lands Big 2024 Verbal From IMer Emily Thompson

NEW COMMIT: Stanford University has received a huge verbal commitment for the Fall of 2024 from Emily Thompson of Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

She will join Levenia Sim as a member of the Cardinal’s Class of 2028.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am elated to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Stanford University! So many thanks to my family, friends, coaches, and teachers for helping me achieve this lifelong dream of mine. I’m looking forward to the next four years on the farm! GO TREES!!”

A versatile swimmer, Thompson does her club swimming with Greater Somerset County YMCA and most recently won the 200m IM at YMCA LCM Nationals, also earning silver in the 200m back and bronze in both the 100m back and 100m free. She qualified for finals of the 200m IM at Phillips 66 Nationals before that, finishing 23rd overall.

Thompson also swept both IMs at YMCA SCY Nationals back in April. In December 2022, she was the 400 IM runner-up at Juniors East and took fifth in the 200 IM.

Her best times include:

  • 400 IM: 4:09.05
  • 200 IM: 1:56.85
  • 200 fly: 1:56.42
  • 100 fly: 52.51
  • 100 back: 54.41
  • 200 back: 1:56.21
  • 100 breast: 1:01.87
  • 200 breast: 2:15.36
  • 200 free: 1:49.36
  • 100 free: 50.25
  • 50 free: 23.09

A rising senior at Ridge High School, Thompson won the 100 fly and 200 IM at the 2023 New Jersey Meet of Champions.

She’s a huge addition to Stanford’s lineup, as her 400 IM time would’ve scored in the B-final of the 2023 NCAA Championships.
