Stanford Gets Another: HS Swimmer of the Year Morgan Tankersley
NEW COMMIT: Stanford continues to haul in top talent, this time with a verbal commitment from Morgan Tankersley, the 2017 Swimming World High School Swimmer of the Year. Tankersley will head to California from Tampa, Florida. She’s a senior at Plant High School and trains with Greater Tampa Swimming Association.
Last year Tankersley led high school swimming across the country in two events- the 200 and 500 freestyle (1:44.31, 4:37.60). With those times at last fall’s Florida 4A state championship she broke both state records. She also posted a 48.69 leading off her school’s 400 freestyle relay in state record fashion. While her 1650 isn’t quite up to par with her other freestyle events, she’s certainly strong across the board.
Her top times are:
- 50 Free 22.60
- 100 Free 48.69
- 200 Free 1:44.31
- 500 Free 4:37.60
- 1650 Free 16:27.61
After only her junior year in high school those 200 and 500 freestyle times already score at NCAAs.
That Stanford Class of 2022 now includes Taylor Ruck, Lucie Nordmann, Zoe Bartel, Amalie Fackenthal, Anya Goeders and Allie Raab.
Tankersley wrote on Instagram,
“I’m so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Stanford University!!!! Thanks so much for my friends, family, and coaches who have made this possible… I’m really looking forward to spending my next 4 years on the farm!!!! Fear the Tree”
