St. Xavier High School Names Dave Albert New Head Swimming and Diving Coach
St. Xavier has tabbed alumnus Dave Albert as the powerhouse program’s new head swimming and diving coach, the school announced Tuesday.
Albert graduated from the juggernaut program in 2008, just before the start of its run of 13 consecutive Ohio Division I state titles. The AquaBombers are one of the top programs in the nation and the 2020 NISCA boys high school dual meet champions.
“It is a distinct honor, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to lead the swimming and diving program at St. Xavier High School,” Albert said in a school statement. “This program has been extremely meaningful to me over the years, both as a student-athlete and an assistant coach. I’d especially like to thank my wife, family, and friends who have been amazing in this process. I am excited to work with a talented and dedicated staff, to continue the traditions of the program, and to help our swimmers and divers become the best versions of themselves through our mission and their participation on the team.”
Albert replaces Tim Beerman, who resigned from the role in April after six seasons at the helm. Albert swam for legendary coach Jim Brower.
After graduating in 2008, Albert returned as an assistant coach for the AquaBombers since 2009. He’s worked with St. Xavier’s swim team, water polo team and triathlon club. He started working with the Cincinnati Marlins in 2016 in a variety of roles.
Albert, who received bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Xavier University, had worked as the assistant director of admissions and enrollment and the dean of student leadership at McNicholas High School. He will assume a job in the St. Xavier admissions office.
“We are thrilled to have an alumnus of St. Xavier High School and our swimming and diving program take over our storied program,” St. Xavier athletic director Brian Reinhart said. “Coach Albert has extensive experience as an assistant coach at St. X as well as with various clubs in the area that will be an asset to continuing the tradition of the Long Blue Lane. He understands how athletics fits into the mission of the school having lived it as a student-athlete and coach.”
