SCOTTSDALE, Arizona, October 14. VICTORIA Toris won’t have to travel far for college next fall, as the Arizona sprinter made a verbal commitment to go about 400 miles west to the University of Southern California.
Dave Salo’s program will need Toris’ sprinting capabilities to replace Kasey Carlson, who had been the top Trojan sprinter for a couple of years and their key relay swimmer. Toris has been working her way up the ranks for a couple of years, with a lifetime best of 22.85 in the short course yards 50 free and 49.50 in the 100 free. She’ll look to improve on those times next month in defending her Arizona high school state titles for Pinnacle High School.
She also has the potential to contribute in the 200 free, and counts backstroke as her secondary stroke. Her 200-yard free lifetime best sits at 1:49.37, while she has times of 56.49 and 2:00.37 in the backstrokes to her credit.
