Sprinter Julianna Stephens Lends 2020 In-State Verbal to Georgia
NEW COMMIT: The University of Georgia has received a new verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from in-state sprint freestyler Julianna Stephens of Roswell, Ga.
Stephens, who owns the U.S. Open standard in the 50m free, does her club swimming with Swim Atlanta and capped off her successful long course season with four best times at Georgia LCM Seniors. Last winter, she finaled in the 50/100 free combo at Georgia SCY Seniors before going on to earn a pair of lifetime bests at the Southern Premier Invitational.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am beyond excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Georgia. This a dream come true and I wouldn’t be here without my supportive parents, amazing coaches, and the best team mates. I want to thank the UGA coaching staff for giving me this opportunity, and the uga swim and dive team who I am so proud to call my new family. I am so lucky to be apart of such an amazing team and school. GO DAWGS!!!”
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.98
- 100 free – 52.74
- 50m free – 26.62
- 100m free – 58.91
Also competing for Roswell High School, Stephens is a three-time Georgia 6-7A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished sixth in the 50 free and 11th in the 100 free as a junior after finishing 12th in the former event during her sophomore season.
