NEW COMMIT: Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native and current high school junior Andrea Santander has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Southern California as a member of the class of 2024.

Santander does her club swimming with Pine Crest Swim Team and owns five Summer Junior standards with two U.S. Open cuts. She most recently competed at Juniors East and earned four golds and two silvers at Florida Gold Coast Seniors last March.

Also representing Pine Crest School, Santander is a six-time Florida 1A State Championship finalist. The NISCA All-American earned gold in the 100 free and bronze in the 200 IM as a junior after winning the 200 free and taking second in the 100 free during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I feel blessed and thrilled to receive the opportunity to be joining such a great swim and academic program. When I visited the university I fell in love with every aspect of it. From the swimmers to the campus to the coaches. I am so excited to be able to call myself a Trojan soon and I cannot wait to see what the future holds being at such an incredible place.”

Her best times include:

  • 50 Free – 22.99
  • 100 Free – 49.69
  • 200 Free – 1:47.02
  • 200 IM – 2:01.34

Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go, Santander will make an immediate impact for the Trojans when she arrives on campus for the 2020-21 season. Her best 200 free time is already an NCAA B Cut, while her 100 free is just shy of that standard. She could also find herself on USC’s 4×200 free relay team, which recently placed third at NCAAs.
