Sprinter Ana Eyre of Maui Dolphins Swim Club Verbally Commits to Columbia
NEW COMMIT: Sprinter Ana Eyre of Makawao, Hawaii, will head to the east coast next fall after verbally committing* to Columbia University.
Eyre has done her club swimming with Maui Dolphins Swim Club for the past seven years, and she says that she’s “grateful for my close teammates and coaches because I have been able to develop a genuine passion for swimming.” A representative on the Hawaiian LSC Board, she most recently earned a trio of best times at Federal Way Speedo Sectionals in March after recording four top-10 finishes at Hawaii Age Groups in December.
She told Swimming World:
“I am beyond ecstatic to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Columbia University in the City of New York! I’m in love with the diverse feel of the city, the elegant campus, elite academic environment, outstanding coaching staff, and FAST team of women that I get to become a part of next year. I’d like to express my gratitude to my parents, family, coaches, mentors, teachers, teammates, and friends for inspiring and pushing me to work hard and achieve my dreams. I can’t wait to be a lion in 2020!”
Her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.62
- 100 free – 52.03
- 200 free – 1:52.63
- 500 free – 5:04.10
Eyre will add valuable sprint depth to the Lions’ sprint group when she arrives on campus in the fall of 2020 and will have one year of overlap with Jessica He and Emily Wang. Her best time in the 50 free would’ve placed in the C-final at the 2019 Ivy League Championships while she’s just shy of scoring range in the 100 free and 200 free.
*IVY LEAGUE DISCLAIMER:* A “verbal commitment” does not guarantee admission. An Ivy League coach cannot guarantee admission but can only commit support in the admissions process.
