Missy is The Marketable Missile According to SportsPro
BERKELEY, California, May 19. THERE’s a reason why Missy Franklin is only swimming two years in college at the University of California, and SportsPro Magazine just detailed some of it by ranking Franklin a loft eighth in its Most Marketable Athletes of 2014 rankings.
This isn’t just a most marketable Olympians list either, as Franklin beat out some huge names in the sports community including Blake Griffin of the NBA and Johnny Football himself, Johnny Manziel.
SportsPro: The World’s 50 Most Marketable Athletes 2014 – The Top 10
1) Lewis Hamilton – motorsport, Great Britain
2) Virat Kohli – cricket, India
3) Robert Griffin III – football, USA
4) Cristiano Ronaldo – soccer, Portugal
5) Grigor Dimitrov – tennis, Bulgaria
6) Usain Bolt – athletics, Jamaica
7) Neymar – soccer, Brazil
8) Missy Franklin – swimming, USA
9) Blake Griffin – basketball, USA
10) Sloane Stephens – tennis, USA
The magazine lauded Franklin in its quick synopsis of her career, explaining how she’s already turned down about $2.5 million in endorsements already at this point.
“It goes without saying that as blank canvasses go, they don’t come much bigger than ‘Missy the Missile’,” SportsPro Magazine wrote. “Unlike in London, Franklin will go into the next Games as one of the faces, if not the face, of the USA’s pre-Olympic build-up, a probability made even likelier given US Olympic broadcaster NBC also has a batch of swimming rights. Given the career span of elite swimmers, Rio is likely to be Franklin’s crowning moment”
