Splashbacks 2023 – The Top Stories From May/June: Raven Domingo Unveils Hawaiian-Inspired Swimwear

Traditionally, Swimming World caps each year by revisiting some of its most-read stories from the previous months. This Splashback package is broken into six parts, with each segment looking at the top topics of a two-month span. Our Splashbacks will run through the end of 2023, and lead us into the unquestionable excitement to come in 2024 – an Olympic year.

Here is a look at the top stories of 2023 from May and June.

1. La Salle’s Raven Domingo Shares Glimpse of Hawaii with Keahikini Swimwear

To honor her Hawaiian heritage and entrepreneurial interests, La Salle University’s Raven Domingo designed swimwear true to her heart. Many of the designs feature patterns that reflect the Hawaiian culture.

2. Olympian Jamie Yeung Retires from Swimming With Legacy of Never Giving Up on Dreams, and Giving Back

A University of Michigan product, Jamie Yeung announced her retirement from the sport after achieving her goal of qualifying for the Olympic Games. A native of Hong Kong, Yeung revealed her retirement through a heartfelt post on social media.

3. Walsh Sisters, Alex and Gretchen, Release Second Collection of Sporti Swimsuits

Best known for their prowess in the pool for the University of Virginia and Team USA, sisters Alex and Gretchen Walsh unveiled their latest line of swimsuits in May. The siblings have worked with Sporti on providing exciting designs for swimmers.

4. Celebrating 50th Wedding Anniversary, Mark Spitz and Wife, Suzy, Replicate Sports Illustrated Cover During ISHOF Visit

While celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, Mark and Suzy Spitz took time to visit the International Swimming Hall of Fame. During the trip, they posed for a repeat of a Sports Illustrated cover from years ago.

5. U.S. Nationals: Claire Weinstein Stuns Katie Ledecky in 200 Freestyle National Final

Racing at the United States National Championships, 16-year-old Claire Weinstein posted a time of 1:55.26 to edge Katie Ledecky (1:55.28) for the title. Weinstein’s triumph was fueled by a closing split of 29.35.
