NEW COMMIT: Naperville, Ill. native and current high school junior Maxine Parkinson has verbally committed to Southern Methodist University as a member of the class of 2024.

Parkinson, who does her club swimming with Delta Aquatics, owns four Summer Juniors time standards. She most recently competed at NCSAs where she recorded three lifetime bests and placed 11th in both the 50 breast and 100 breast after competing in four events at Winter Nationals. This past summer, she had four second swims at NCSAs and notched three best times at Iowa City Speedo Sectionals.

Also competing for Neuqua Valley High School, Parkinson is a four-time Illinois State Championship finalist. She was the 100 breast runner-up and placed fourth in the 200 IM as a junior after finishing fourth and 11th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season. Parkinson has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Southern Methodist University! A big thank you to my family, coaches, and teammates for helping me get to this point! Can’t wait to be a mustang! Pony Up!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:02.47
  • 200 breast – 2:17.82
  • 100 fly – 55.49
  • 200 IM – 2:02.37

Parkinson will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Mustangs at the start of the 2020-21 season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 breast as well as the B-final of the 100 fly, 200 IM and 200 breast at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships where Southern Methodist finished third overall in the team standings.
