South Carolina Scores 2022 Verbal From In-State Standout Sterling Burd
NEW COMMIT: The University of South Carolina has received their first verbal commitment for the fall of 2022 from Junior National qualifier Sterling Burd of Hilton Head, S.C.
She told Swimming World:
“I am beyond thrilled to announce my commitment to be a USC Gamecock for the next 4 years! Swimming is my passion and I’m ready to have incredible teammates and coaches that will push me to be the best swimmer I can be! I would love to take this time to thank my Lord and Savior, my family and Coach Mike at H2A for their dedication and support to getting me to where I am today! I am super excited to have this amazing opportunity. With that being said… Go Cocks!???”
A talented butterflyer and freestyler, Burd does her club swimming with Hilton Head Aquatics and finaled in four events at the NCSA Championships in March after collecting gold in the 1000 free at South Carolina Seniors the month prior. She also finished sixth in the 200 fly at Cary Sectionals.
Burd is a rising senior at Hilton Head Christian Academy.
Her best times include:
- 100 fly – 56.59
- 200 fly – 2:01.00
- 200 free – 1:51.70
- 500 free – 4:58.91
- 1000 free – 10:11.95
- 1650 free – 17:21.30
Burd will add valuable depth to their roster at the start of the 2022-23 season, as she would’ve ranked No. 1 in the 1000 free and No. 2 in the 500/1650 free last year. She also would’ve been their fourth-fastest 200 flyer.
The Gamecocks are also bringing in Paige Collins, Maddie Pierce and Makenzy Mills as members of their Class of 2025, so Burd will have three years of overlap with them.
