South Carolina Independent Schools State Record Holder Caleb Eidson Verbals to Lees-McRae College
NEW COMMIT: Lees-McRae College has picked up a big verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Junior National qualifier Caleb Eidson of Hilton Head Island, S.C.
He will join Stephen Bandy of Rocky Mount, N.C. as a member of the Bobcats’ Class of 2025.
He told Swimming World:
“I chose Lees McRae because of the opportunities available to me and because I felt that it was just the right speed for me. It was small and close which is what I felt I needed to be successful. I also saw a chance to be apart of something greater than myself in a team that was just getting started.”
A talented sprinter, Eidson does his club swimming with Hilton Head Aquatics and won the 50 free at South Carolina Seniors in February. In Summer 2019, he grabbed bronze in the 100m free and took sixth in the 50m free at South Carolina LCM Seniors before going on to compete at Greensboro Futures.
His best times include:
- 50 free – 20.92
- 100 free – 46.34
- 200 IM – 2:03.45
- 100 back – 54.18
Also competing for Hilton Head Christian Academy, Eidson is a six-time South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA) gold medallist. He won the 50 free and 100 free during as a senior while grabbing gold in both the 50 free and 100 back during his junior season. In 2020, he set the state record in the 50 and 100 free.
Eidson will make a big impact individually and on relays when he arrives on campus next year, and his time in the 50 free is just three-tenths of their program mark. He would’ve scored in the A-final of the 50 free as well as the B-final of the 100 free at the 2020 Bluegrass Mountain / Carolinas Conference Championships.
