South Carolina 4A State Champion Cohen Bruner Sends Verbal Pledge to Navy

NEW COMMIT: Freestyler Cohen Bruner of Hilton Head Island, S.C. has announced his verbal commitment to the United States Naval Academy beginning in the fall of 2021.

He told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my athletic and academic career at the United States Naval Academy! I would like to thank my family, coach, friends, and teammates whose support has given me the opportunity to make this decision. Go Navy! Beat Army!”

Swimming for Hilton Head Aquatics, Bruner ecollected silver medals in both the 50 free and 200 free as well as a bronze medal in the 500 free at February’s South Carolina Senior State Championships after racing three events at Juniors East in December. In summer 2019, he finaled in three events at Greensboro Sectionals before going on to take seventh in the 100m free at Greensboro Futures.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 21.32
  • 100 free – 46.24
  • 200 free – 1:40.37
  • 500 free – 4:44.69

Currently a senior at Hilton Head High School, Bruner is a six-time individual South Carolina 4A State Championship finalist. He won the 100 free and 200 free as a senior while taking fifth and second, respectively, in those events during his junior season.

In 2020, he swam on the winning 4×50 free and 4×100 free relays. Bruner has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts in the pool and in the classroom.
