South Africa’s Keri Shaw Suspended for Doping

DURBAN, South Africa, April 2. ACCORDING to a release from Swimming South Africa, the organization has been informed that during the FINA Swimming World Cup held in Belo Horizonte Nov. 25, 2007, Keri-Leigh Shaw tested positive for the substances Clenbuterol (Class S.1.2 Other Anabolic Agents) and Ephedrine (Class S.6 Stimulants).
The FINA Executive decided, as per FINA Rule DC 7.1.12, to provisionally suspend Shaw from April 1 until a hearing before the FINA Doping Panel can be made following the analysis of the B-sample.
Clenbuterol is a decongestant often used by people with asthma, while ephedrine is a commonly used stimulant.
