Sophie Murphy, Clarissa Sabin Verbally Commit to Georgia Tech for 2021-22 Season

NEW COMMITS: Georgia Tech has earned two new verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Cheshire, Conn. native Sophie Murphy and Clarissa Sabin of Springfield, N.J.

Both swimmers will join Caroline Pape, Sarah Livingston and Lily Burke in Atlanta as a member of the Yellow Jackets’ class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Georgia Tech! I’m beyond thankful for my amazing family, friends, coaches, and teammates for all their support throughout this process. I can’t wait to be a yellow jacket in 2021!  GO JACKETS!!”

A talented sprinter,  Murphy does her club swimming with Cheshire Y Sea Dog Swim Club and owns the U.S. Open cut in the 100m free with the Junior National standard in the 50m free. She raced the 50m/100m free at the U.S. Open before going on to win both of those events at Connecticut Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.47
  • 100 free – 51.08
  • 200 free – 1:51.56
  • 500 free – 4:58.36

Last summer, she placed fourth in the 100m free and sixth in the 50m free at YMCA LCM Nationals. A rising senior at Cheshire High School, the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American won both the 50 free and 100 free at the CIAC Open during her junior season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academics at Georgia Tech!! Words can’t describe how thankful I am for all my coaches, family, and friends who have supported me throughout the years and helped me get to where I am today. I can’t wait to be a part of this amazing team! GO JACKETS”

Primarily a breaststroker, Sabin owns a pair of U.S. Open time standards and swims year-round with Berkeley Aquatic Club. She won all of her events at the PAC Christmas Invitational in December and recorded four top-12 finishes at Indianapolis Sectionals in 2019.

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:02.99
  • 200 breast – 2:17.59
  • 200 IM – 2:04.62
  • 400 IM – 4:22.72

She won the 100m breast and 200m IM at Eastern Zone Seniors last summer before going on to finished 14th in the 100m breast at Junior Nationals. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in her career thus far.
